I just finished my Gender Ethics class, wherein I had to lead a discussion about prostitution. I will never stop being shocked by how conservative these kids are. Let's just say, they didn't just think that people ought not be prostitutes, they thought that prostitution should be completely and utterly banned in every possible permutation. Why? Because it harms the "morality of the country". Well ... OK. They also continually spoke about it as purely an issue affecting women. I pointed out that 30% of prostitutes in SF are male, and of the female, an estimated 25% are transgendered -- they looked at me like I was ON CRACK. Someone actually pulled out the old saw of "if we let this be legal, then what is to stop polygamy or incest?" WHAT? That is the arguement against Gay Marriage, peawit, and it is a retarded arguement then, too.

They make me feel like a crazy old bawd.

My thoughts on prostitution: They may as well regulise it as they can't eradicate it, prostitution being the oldest profession. It would benefit everyone involved as they could check for diseases, etc. There's also a money benefit to it. Simple as that. :)

I never understood why you couldn't sell something but you could give it away for free...

Also how as long as you are paid for your sex acts by a 3rd party, its free and clear and under control.. see: porn.

A British friend pointed me toward http://www.punternet.com/index1.html to try and shock me, but I spent probably a total of 10 hours reading reviews of prositutes and with alot of mixed feelings.

Basically, I think selling your sexuality is fine, fun and profitable. However, I think that, like in all professions, these men and women should be protected from physical violence, diease, and dangerous situations... there needs to be a legitimization of the act, so that these women/men can be safe and so that their clients can be safe too.

Although I see nothing wrong with selling sex, I do have some qualms with BUYING sex and those who buy/bought sex. I think it is sex for lazy people.

Anyways, if you browse the site for awhile, you really learn alot about men, money and sex.. its really eye-opening!

The cheaper the hooker, the less men want to do with them. Fuck them and leave, the nastier and quicker the better. Men who pay more for prostitutes expect conversation, wit, charm, beauty and personality to go with the hot sex they intend to have. They have shorthand for things like the GFE which means she gave him a real "girlfriend experience". They want to cuddle and LOVE performing oral sex on these whores...

Food for thought... food for thought...

The problem is that if you try to ban something you can't regulate it.

Actually, if they made drugs legal they'd have to put it through the FDA, which would cut down on drug related deaths, but do they care about that, hell no.

The same is true with prostitution. If it were legal there would be some protection for these girls from being raped, infected with STD's by customers who refused to wear condoms, beaten up by pimps etc. but no... they won't hear what they don't want to hear.
