Feel free to flame my bitching about the crappyness of Christianity and how denominational it is towards everything they think is distasteful. Also feel free to flame because of my distateful use of language. Anyway, any homophobic responses and I'll set the GBIS on y'all :D

Dear whoever wrote these articles: please die immediately. I mean, seriously. I'm not saying all Christians, as a few of my friends and some of my family are Christian and they certainly don't think like this (oh, and just so we're clear, I'm currently unaffiliated, was randomly browsing the christian sites as it's incredibly amusing to read Christian reviews of films like Pulp Fiction and Latter Days...), but still. It's the bible-thumping ones that make my blood boil.

Example 1, this: "What's wrong with being gay? Homosexual behaviour versus the Bible." This one's a doozy.

I'll start with this charmer, about 1/4 of the way down down the page:

No harm?

Andrew Lansdown points out that 'homosexual activity is notoriously disease-prone. In addition to diseases associated with heterosexual promiscuity, homosexual actions facilitate the transmission of anal herpes, hepatitis B, intestinal parasites, Kaposi's Sarcoma and AIDS.'

Gaaaarrrrr. Blamed for everything. You know what? I bet the whole epidemic of AIDS in Africa was caused by a couple of gay guys that went down and fucked THE WHOLE POPULATION. Sigh. Please die, Andrew Lansdown.

Next off:

Gay activists claim that homosexual activity is nobody's business other than those involved in the relationship. However, this is not true. God, our Designer and Creator, has authority over all aspects of our lives. He makes the rules, and He quite specifically forbids homosexual behavior.

Okies. God may be mad at all the 'fags' out there, but that doesn't mean little God-fearing Mary Smith who lives down the street and goes to church every Sunday has any say in it. Leave it up to your God to pass judgment and fuck off. Ha, I just put 'God' and 'fuck off' in the same sentence. Heh.

Okay, I'm bored with that article already, so let's move on. "What should be the attitude of the church toward homosexuals and homosexuality?" Well, this one sounds promising.

Okay, before I even start on this one, I have to point out the photos.

I love how they choose to portray gays as people whose only meaning in life is to gyrate against one another while wearing incredibly ugly spandex. Wowee. I think the 'Celebrate Sodomy' sign is a nice touch, as well. Okay, now, to start this off:

Thus, sodomites--like sorcerers, whoremongers, murderers, idolaters and lovers of lies--should undoubtedly also be excluded from church fellowship. If such a person, professing to be a Christian, persists in his sin, he should be put out of the church, like the one who had committed fornication with his stepmother.

AHAHAHAHAHA. Okay, in case you missed that, the church is equating homosexuals with: johns, John Gacy (because, well, he's obviously the stereotypical homosexual), N*SYNC fans and Harry Potter. What. the. fuck.

In spite of great pressure today from humanists and other liberals to get homosexuality recognized as an acceptable--if not even preferable--life style, the Bible makes it plain that it is really unnatural and animalistic wickedness that must be rejected by true Christians.

Animalistic wickedness? Blech. Something tells me the church would prefer bestiality to homosexuality.

Okay, now, next up is the one that made me nearly rip all my hair out. This one is just... argh. Seriously, I'm going all grand mal just thinking about it over again. Titled: "Deliverance from Homosexuality: by Adelaide, age 22."

I remember, at college, "having" to watch the Ellen "coming out" episode. At that time, I had NO IDEA that I had homosexual feelings, but something was at work within me, and it was a dangerous thing.

Ahh, Adelaide, I don't think it was Ellen that turned you, m'dear. I think you're just as gay as a maypole. Don't deny it, sweetheart. Listen to what was said before and, even though this may not directly apply to you, 'Celebrate Sodomy.'

During this period of my life, I cared for no one but myself. I did drugs (cocaine, XTC, pot, mushrooms), did a considerable amount of cigarette smoking, drank continuously. I was so depressed. I was so anxious. And I was so away from God.

Uh, 'kay. I realize a lot of people, when they first realize they're gay, get depressed. But man... let's not equate being a dyke with doing mushrooms, alright? Dude.

I can proudly say, now, that I have a wonderful relationship with a Christian man. We encourage each other all the time in Christ. For a long time after all of this occurred, I struggled continuously with my lust for women. I truly believe that it was I choice I MADE to bring this sin into my life, and now I am paying the consequences for lost and loved friends, a woman who I hurt very badly due to my selfishness, and lust. Yes, I do still lust, but God is in control! When I feel this way, I PRAY. When I don't feel that way, I pray. And, I can honestly say, that God HAS supplied all of my needs. Trust me friends, homosexuality is not your answer. Trust in the Lord, and he will deliver you, like he delivered me.

Sigh. I totally give up.

I GIVE UP.

I hate the attempt to use the Bible against homosexuality. Yes the Old Testament condemns homosexuality, and in the same passages it condemns eating shellfish, the wearing the clothes of two different fibers and number of other things. Ask someone using the Bible against homosexuality and they'll say "well those other things are just cultural values, they shouldn't be universalized" however I've never seen them able to provide a criteria to show why only those ones (the ones that they tend to participate in) are cultural and not universalizable values. Christianity is not incompatable with homosexuality.

Agreed.

There's an incredibly small-but-good book written by a reverend I picked up in the religious section of a bookstore entitled "What the Bible really says about homosexuality", that basically supports most of what you say in a language that most christians can understand. Highly recommended.
